Our Vision: A place where our children, adults and community can grow and thrive rooted in Kindness, Fellowship and Confidence.
Statement of Intent:
At Stanhope Barrington C of E Primary School, we believe that Relationships, Sex, Health Education (RSHE) enables our children to become healthy, safe, independent, confident and responsible members of wider society. Our curriculum is closely linked to our school vision of Kindness, Fellowship and Confidence and seeks to reinforce our vision and associated values.
Our RSHE curriculum provides lifelong learning about relationships, emotions, looking after ourselves, different families, sex, sexuality and sexual health. It helps our children to understand how they change and develop both personally and socially over time and also covers many of the complex moral, social and cultural issues which are part of growing up.
RSHE is delivered through our unique and dedicated Character Development lessons which take place weekly but is also embedded in other curriculum areas such as Science and Computing. It is also part of the day-to-day life of our school.
Children are taught by familiar adults, with whom they have a good rapport, in order to facilitate constructive and supportive discussions around sensitive topics in a safe and secure environment. Staff have undergone in-house CPD and are well equipped to support children with any questions or concerns they may have. Our Character Development curriculum has been carefully planned to ensure progression and the teaching of age appropriate content. Through our progressive curriculum, children develop key skills and are prepared for the wider world beyond primary school, a diverse world in which they can keep themselves safe and healthy and thrive with the support of the positive relationships they forge with those around them.
