Our Vision:
A place where our children, adults and community can grow and thrive rooted in
Kindness, Fellowship and Confidence.
At Stanhope Barrington C of E Primary School, we understand that computing and technology is an important part of everyday life, both at school and home. We aim to equip our children with the important skills they need to participate confidently in an ever-changing world. Our Computing curriculum focuses on a progression of skills in digital literacy, computer science, information technology and online safety to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding, technology. It is also key for children to not only be confident when using technology, but to become critical thinkers and problem solvers, skills that can be used and applied across the curriculum. These strands are revisited repeatedly through a range of themes during the children’s time in school, to ensure the learning is embedded and skills are successfully developed and applied correctly. Due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on schooling and the use of equipment, we have identified that children need a focused computing curriculum which targets the missed knowledge and ensures all our children have the fundamental building blocks on which to build more in-depth knowledge.
Our staff model and use technology to both teach interactive and engaging lessons, and to showcase the children’s work and experiences on our ever-developing website. Staff embrace the integral use of the internet in the modern world and encourage the children to safely navigate it to complete a range of tasks.
As our school is set in a rural area there are a number of challenges that we face including: ensuring our children are exposed to technologies they may not have access to at home; ensuring parents are supported to develop skills necessary to guide and protect their children whilst online; and ensuring our children are secondary ready in regard to their understanding of our digital society.

Algorithms – As part of our early computing skills the children have been completing several algorithms. The children have recently read the story Dear Zoo and using this story had to match the animal to the correct habitat. The children were expected to use sentences to solve the simple problems independently.

Digital Art – In Computing we used iPads or laptops to create a range of digital art. Children learned the benefits of having tools to draw shapes and straight lines, use colour fill tools and how to undo and redo to make sure our design is as good as it can be.

Filming Techniques – The Emerald Learning Zone are learning how to make and edit videos. In today’s lesson the children had to learn how to film using a range of filming techniques. This included; close ups, long shots and moving shots. We are looking forward to seeing their finished videos.
Video Makers – The Emerald Learning Zone are looking at what techniques are used to make videos. They have looked at the different types of shots used such as; long shorts, close ups and high shots. They have also tried zooming, panning and tilt shots. The next step is to work in groups to use a story board to plan, record and edit their own videos.
