Statement of Intent:
Our Vision:
A place where our children, adults and community can grow and thrive rooted in
Kindness, Fellowship and Confidence.
At Stanhope Barrington C of E Primary School, we provide a challenging, broad and balanced Art and Design curriculum which provides our children with a wealth of sources and stimuli to inspire their inner creative selves. Our carefully planned curriculum ensures a clear progression of skills allowing all children to be inspired and challenged to invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As our children progress through school, they should begin to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of Art and Design. Our children also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. Specific planned opportunities allow children to be engaged in evaluating and analysing creative works using the correct language of art, craft and design.
Weardale inspires us to engage with our talented, local community who provide a diverse selection of traditional talents. Our school is based in an Area of Outstanding National Beauty which encompasses a UNESCO geopark, a number of conservation areas and has a rich mining heritage all of which are exploited to enrich the children’s education. Extra-curricular activities also provide unique opportunities to work with local Artists and celebrate our exceptional culture.
Art and Design Long Term Plan
Opal Learning Zone
Hedgehogs – This half-term the children have been investigating our local community. As part of our planning the children ventured into Stanhope where they stumbled across a hedgehog when returning to school the children were challenged to use clay and tooth picks to create their own hedgehog designs.
Amethyst Learning Zone
Autumn Leaves – As the Reception children continue to study Autumn we have had the opportunity to go on a walk. During this walk we identified how the leaves had changed colour from green to yellow, orange and red. The children were then asked to use their fingers to create an Autumn tree.
Sapphire Learning Zone
Wassily Kandinsky – Sapphire learned about the work of Wassily Kandinsky and abstract art. They created their own version of one of his famous pieces by researching it, planning a design and then improving their painting and colour mixing skills in their final version.
